Save the Cats is a rescue-style bubble-popping game. The player helps a hot air balloonist and her cats rescue kittens trapped in bubbles while traveling to different locations around the world. They also collect points, stars and coins.
The player throws bubble projectiles at two or more matching bubbles to create clusters that pop. When they pop a bubble that contains a kitten, it parachutes safely to the ground.
Although the player receives a limited number of moves displayed between two rotating arrows near a box of projectiles, they can swap projectiles for more efficient play by selecting the number. Additionally, they only need to rescue the kittens. The game pops leftover bubbles and rewards bonus points for unused projectiles.
Save the Cats features four boosters near the bottom of a scene. The player can use a rainbow bubble to match any bubbles, a super aim bubble to increase their targeting accuracy, a super swap bubble to see the next two projectiles, and an eagle egg to receive a special effect. They must purchase access to these tools with their coins. They can receive more coins by viewing ads.
The player receives other tools as they progress through the game. For example, they can charge a special fireball lantern in the lower-right area. They merely need to pop bubbles that match its color. Once the lantern fills, they select it and a fireball that can pop a large group of mixed bubbles in an explosion replaces the projectile.
